The GBD-H1000 is packed with five sensors in and around the watch, including an optical sensor for heart rate measurement by detecting blood flow through the wrist. Additionally, other sensors measure altitude/barometric pressure, compass bearing, temperature, and acceleration.

The data collected by these sensors are monitored and managed on a dedicated iOS or Android app by connecting the watch to a smartphone. Furthermore, the new G-Shock also offers notification alerts, as well as on-board GPS location tracking. Unlike Google’s Wear OS system found on most smartwatches, the GBD-H1000 is equipped with Casio’s own black and white user interface.

As with any other G-Shock branded watch by Casio, the new smartwatch is shock-resistant and offers 20-bar water resistance. The company claims that the GBD-H1000 should last 12 months in between charges when used solely in Time Mode, with step tracker and notification functions activated. Whereas, the watch will last around 14 hours when used regularly with all of its features fully utilised. That said, the new G-Shock provides both USB and solar charging capabilities to top-up its battery. Casio adds that the solar charging alone is sufficient to keep the watch powered when running in Time Mode. The Casio G-Shock GBD-H1000 will be available in April 2020, and is offered in four colour options: black and white, all-black, red, and black and red. Pricing for the new smartwatch has not been revealed just yet. (Source: Casio.)
