Engadget reports that the company unveiled the Huawei Card during the Chinese launch event for the P40. It’s not made of titanium like the Apple Card, but it’s instead made of the regular credit card plastic. But it will reportedly adopt some of the Apple Card’s best features. To start, it serves as both a physical and a virtual card, and can make use of NFC payments. Your phone will also handle the card’s data in the way mobile payments are handled. The Huawei Card is also backed by UnionPay, China’s largest card payment organisation.
There are also other benefits that Huawei is throwing on to those who sign up for its credit card. The first year’s annual fee is waived entirely, and the second year’s can be waived if you spend enough via Huawei Pay. The company also intends to add travel benefits to the users of its card, such as special lounge access at train stations and airports. All that being said, there is currently no release date for the Huawei Card. And then there’s the matter of the card being available outside of its home country, and finally its availability here.
