All three of the Mate 40 series are equipped with the 5G-enabled Kirin 9000 chipset, Huawei’s EMUI 11 operating system which is based on Android 10, and an improved dual stereo speaker system with 150% stronger bass output. While different in sizes, the trio sports a similar design language featuring 88-degree curved OLED displays and a halo-like rear camera layout dubbed as “Space Ring” by Huawei. All three offer water resistance with a rating of IP68.
As for memory configurations, both the Huawei Mate 40 and its Pro variant features 8GB of RAM, while the Pro Plus comes with 12GB RAM. Storage-wise, the three devices pack an internal storage capacity of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB respectively. The standard version of the Huawei Mate 40 comes with a 6.5-inch screen with a single punch-hole cutout on its top left corner, while both the Pro and the Pro Plus have a 6.76-inch display with a pill-shaped dual camera cutout instead. All of the displays on the three devices feature a 90Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. In terms of resolution, the Mate 40 offers a resolution of FHD+ 2376 x 1080 px, while its siblings feature FHD+ 2772 x 1344 px.
In terms of battery life, the Mate 40 comes with a 4,200mAh battery with 40W USB-C fast charging support, while the Pro and Pro Plus features a battery capacity of 4,400mAh with 66W USB-C fast charging. Additionally, the latter two could also be wirelessly fast charged at 50W via the Huawei SuperCharge Wireless Charger Stand.
As for photography, the standard variant is equipped with a quad camera setup consisting of a 50MP main, 16MP ultra-wide, a laser sensor, and an 8MP telephoto lens which is capable of 3x optical zoom, 5x hybrid, and 30x digital. Housed in the punch-hole cutout on its front display is a 13MP selfie camera.
The Mate 40 Pro, on the other hand, sports a quad camera setup featuring a 50MP main, 20MP ultra-wide, laser sensor, and a 12MP telephoto with 7x optical zoom, 10x hybrid, and 50x digital. The two cameras housed in the pill-shaped cutout on its front display consists of a 13MP wide and a 3D depth sensing camera.
Lastly, the Mate 40 Pro Plus packs an additional sensor to its setup, resulting in a total of five cameras on its back. These include a 50MP wide, 20MP ultra-wide, 12MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom, 8MP SuperZoom camera with 10x optical zoom, and a 3D depth sensing camera. It also features the same front facing camera setup as the Pro variant.
The Huawei Mate 40, along with the Pro and Pro Plus will retail at EUR899, EUR1,199, and EUR1,399 respectively. However, the company did not specify when all three flaghip smartphones will be released.
