For a start, the Meizu 16s features a 6.2-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display, complete with an in-display fingerprint scanner. What’s interesting to note is that the display does not have any notches; the phone sports bezels at the top and bottom, with the top bezel housing the phone’s 20MP selfie camera. While still on the topic of camera, the Meizu 16s’ main dual camera setup comprises a primary 48MP f/1.7 Sony IMX586 camera sensor, and a secondary 20 f/2.6 Sony IMX350 sensor. The setup reportedly allows for the device to capture pictures in what is called a “Super Night View” mode. Merging eight photos into a single image, in order to compensate for low-light environments.
Beneath the hood, the Meizu 16s houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, along with either 6GB or 8GB DDR4X RAM, and a storage capacity between 128GB and 256GB. Powering it all is a 3600mAh battery. While that isn’t a small capacity by any means, it feels dwarfed by other premium smartphones brands already using battery capacities beyond the 4000mAh threshold. Connectivity for the Meizu 16s includes a USB-C port, Bluetooth 5.0, and NFC. Software-wise, the Meizu will be running its Flyme 7.3 UI on top of Android 9 Pie. Interestingly, the phone will also features a new “Hyper Gaming Mode”, which provides smoother graphics performance without consuming a massive amount of battery power. In conjunction with that mode, Meizu has also added in its mEngine 3.0 vibration motor to provide a more immersive experience during gameplay.
The Meizu 16s is slated to go on sale in China on 28 April. The phone will have two memory and storage configuration; 6GB/128GB at 3198 Yuan (~RM1965) and 8GB/256GB at 3498 Yuan (~RM2149). It will also be available in three colours, which are Carbon Black, Pearl White, and Phantom Blue. At the time of writing, there is no word on local pricing or availability.
