The announcement was made in Keighley’s most recent Twitter Spaces audio stream, which was hosted over the weekend. You can listen to it yourself at around the three-minute mark, while the recording is still up. Keighley also acknowledges that “there’s been a little bit of fatigue” with the length of the show. In response, he says he hopes that there will be “a little bit more of a streamlined show” this time around. All this is pretty justified, to say the least. Last year’s show was stretched out for the better part of three hours and 40 minutes, at least from the Twitch recording of the event. Which is safe to say, can be a test of endurance as much as it is a celebration show. All that being said, it’s unclear what exactly is getting trimmed. Keighley mentioned that a lot of games, or at least their publishers, want to showcase their games during the event. Though fans of video games would probably appreciate the length of ads get trimmed in equal measure.

Beyond the trimming of the show, he also answers some questions that the audience had, including why the show is held in December, and why some games from very late in the year before are still eligible.
